Newbie to Ft. Lauderdale

Hello all,

I'm currently in the process of moving to Ft. Lauderdale to further my career in the yachting industry by acquiring my RYA 200 ton license.  To make things a little more difficult, my girlfriend, a stewardess, are going to be looking for work and or deliveries as a team.  I was posting to find out if any one had any suggestions as to where in town might be a good place to meet people taking on crew.  From what i understand crew placement agencies aren't very helpfull and i'd like an alternative that allows me to do some networking maybe a yachtclub that does prf racing or a local bar?  If you have any suggestions i'd love to here em.

Thanks  Ric

Non-bar networking

Hi Ric, The Triton hosts a networking event the first Wednesday of every month -- that's this week -- at different locations to give captains and crew a chance to network outside of the bar scene. On Oct. 6, we're meeting at Kemplon Marine Engineering Services. This time of year, there will likely be 300 or more people there. See our homepage for details. Also, don't forget to network with non-crew. The air conditioning guy, for example, just spent a day on a yacht and knows if that captain needs crew. Hope to see you at Kemplon's place Wednesday!
